Today, while I waited for an MRI, I noticed the man in front of me at the check-in desk was wearing a tee shirt with a website for model ships. So, once we were both seated, I caught his eye, smiled, and said, "So, model ships, huh?" The conversation that ensued, because needless to say he was very happy someone noticed his interest, resulted in one of those rare connections. Turns out, he very likely knows some men who knew my father. What are the odds, here in the South Bay, given that my dad lived his entire life in the Philadelphia area?
One of the sad things that result from us always having our eyes glued to our phones is that we miss these kinds of connections. I'm a chatter, like my dad, and I'm so glad he passed that on to me. Today, it came from him and it led right back to him. A gift that keeps on giving.
